Getting your published book into the hands of readers
Bridgeway Sales - Building a bridge between Author and Reader

Questions and Answers

BRIDGEWAY SALES GENERAL QUESTIONS

Who is Bridgeway Sales and why are you offering this unique program?
Bridgeway Sales was conceived and launched by three women who saw this unique opportunity based upon our experiences in the publishing industry. We're comprised of two published authors and one computer programmer and have launched several successful internet businesses since the year 2000.

We have been where you are now, once our own books were published. We experienced the same frustration in battling the major bookstores and the many other challenges of selling our books once they were published.

We knew there had to be an easier way. We knew there are millions of readers who would enjoy our books - if we could find a way to achieve nationwide circulation. We have found major bookstores are not receptive to promoting independent authors and book fairs do not generate sufficient sales to warrant the time, expense and effort.

We knew there were thousand of authors who were searching for a distribution opportunity for their titles. Of 165,000 titles published annually, 40,000 are independently published - accounting for $26 billion in sales. "The Celestine Prophecy", "The One-Minute Manager" and John Grisham's "A Time To Kill" were all initially self-published.

We knew if we could band together, we could promote our own books and books from other Circle Members and create a book sales powerhouse.  J. Paul Getty once said he would rather have 1% of a hundred men’s efforts than 100% of one man’s effort, and we believe it' s true. Together with your Circle of Friends, we can all be successful authors.

This sounds too good to be true, how can I be assured this is legitimate?
It is a fact of life there are many unscrupulous people in the world, and many Get Rich Quick schemes. Any person considering a business venture needs to conduct due diligence, so we offer several ways to help assure you we are accomplished business owners with a successful track record.

We will provide references from members involved with us. In addition we invite you to check out other sales ventures we have successfully launched on the internet:

As you can see, we understand how to conduct business and we understand how to sell products. We hope you will choose to join us and help us rock the publishing world. Who says you have to be a featured author in Borders or Barnes and Noble to be successful?

I have a book, but it isn't edited. Do you recommend someone for editing, cover, layout and printing?
We have excellent editors on our staff and we will be happy to discuss an editing contract. At the present time we do not offer other publishing services, but we can make recommendations based on our experiences in the industry. Watch for our "Publishing Guide" which will be available soon!

How can my book rack compete with a major bookstore?
Sales occur in major book stores because the customer made a conscience effort to visit the bookstore with intentions of purchasing a book. Our book racks are in locations where shoppers are there for any number of reasons, and are susceptible to impulse buying. A well stocked rack, filled with a variety of selections will catch their attention. How may times have you visited a retail store and purchased something you didn't intend to buy when you entered the store?

How do you know where book racks will be successful?
Each city and town is unique. We believe no one knows your area as well as you do, so it will be your decision where to place your racks. We will offer recommendations on retail locations that have proven successful for other Circle Members.

You say you have customer support. Does that mean an automated machine, or will I talk to a live person who is knowledgeable and can answer my questions?
We do not have, and will not have an automated telephone system with a series of automated questions. When you join our program you will be assigned a Personal Sales Representative and you will have a direct telephone number for that person. While we can not guarantee that Sales Representative will be immediately available all day every day, your call will be returned promptly when you leave a message.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS PROGRAM QUESTIONS

What criteria is used to determine whether my book is a "compliment" to the program?
Of course, we require each book to be well written and have a professional appearance.  We require all books to be grammatically correct and of acceptable content. We will not accept any pornography, or books with excessive violence and hate-related material. We may limit books of regional interest based upon the sales opportunities available in that region.

Once I am accepted, how long will it be before I can start?
Once you are accepted and submit your books to us, you should receive complete sales material within 10 business days.

What if I don't like the selections you send for my book rack? Do I get to select the genre or what I feel will fit my area of the country?
Your initial shipment from Bridgeway Sales will include a variety of selections from various Circle Members - including your own books. This allows all Member books to have an equal opportunity for sales. If you find certain books don't sell in your location, we can certainly exchange them for alternate titles.

What if my books that you place with other members' books don't sell? Do I have to take them back?
No - we will try various sales marketing strategies to sell all books. If it is determined that we can not sell your books, we will no longer ship your books to Circle Members or order new copies from you. But - what you've sold to us will not be returned to you.

What if all my books sell? How long will I have to have more reprinted?
We encourage you to reprint as promptly as possible so you don't miss out on sales opportunities. If your books are "out of stock" we will not allow other Circle Members to order your books. If your books are "out of stock"  for three months we will delete that title from our catalog.

What if I want to continue to participate in the Book Rack Sales portion of the program, but not have my books available for reorder in the program?
We will be happy to have you participate in the Book Rack Sales portion of the program and enjoy the sales income from the book racks you have placed in retail stores.

What if I want to participate in the Book Rack Sales portion of the program, but I am not an author and have no books to contribute to the Program?
We will be happy to have you participate in the Book Rack Sales portion of the program. Please contact us for additional information

Do I have the option of quitting the program, returning unsold books and receive a refund for them?
You can certainly quit the program at any time. The books you have in stock are your property to dispose of any way you choose. Based upon the popularity of the unsold titles you have in your rack, we may choose to offer to purchase them from you. Please contact your Sales Representative for additional information.

I understand your staff screens books for quality, but what if I receive books that won't sell in my area?
If you find certain books don't sell in your location, we can certainly exchange them for alternate titles. Please contact your Sales Representative for additional information.

RETAIL STORE BOOK RACK SALES QUESTIONS

Who pays for the shipping and who pays for the racks?
Shipping for books you ship to us will be paid by you, and books we ship to Circle Members will be paid by us. Book Racks will be provided to Circle Members at no additional charge.

What if my rack is damaged or destroyed? Do I have to pay for a new one?
We realize normal wear and tear will occur, so Bridgeway Sales will replace book racks at no additional charge when necessary. If your book racks must be replaced more frequently than would be normal wear and tear, we may discuss changing your retail location to reduce any vandalism that may be occurring.

Who is responsible if books are stolen or damaged?
Your agreement with the retail is worded that the retailer is responsible for paying you for each book that leaves your book rack. When you inventory your rack, you will present an invoice to the retailer for any book that is gone. It's the retailer responsibility to control inventory in his store. Damages are your responsibility, but this is why we shrink wrap each book. This will prevent the books from becoming tattered by customers.

How often should I check my rack at the retail store to collect my money and restock the inventory?
That is entirely up to you based upon the volume of sales your rack generates in the retail store. A well stacked rack with a variety of selection will generate more sales opportunities so we encourage you to visit as often as your location dictates.

I understand about shrink wrapping to protect the books, but what if someone wants to flip through one? Won't that keep them from buying the book?
We don't believe it prevents sales since most information can be found on the back cover of the book. The Book Rack owner may choose to unwrap one book of each title for the shopper to look through, but we can not accept exchanges on any book that has been unwrapped or is used in any way.

Am I able to negotiate with the retailer for a smaller commission?
This will be your business to conduct any way you feel will benefit you the most.

Do I have the option of running "sales"?
This will be your business to conduct any way you feel will benefit you the most.
